J I M L E E
Jim Lee (1945-2023) was a British photographer
based in London and New York.
Hailed as “Britain’s answer to Guy Bourdin”, Lee was known for his theatrical, layered and dynamic style.
He made a name for himself as the “original wild child of fashion photography”, not by concentrating on clothes, but through an obsessive focus on storytelling.
He began photographing bands including The Beatles,
The Rolling Stones, The Who and The Kinks in the Swinging London of the 1960s.
Lee became in demand as a fashion photographer, partnering with a young Anna Wintour and collaborating with influential fashion designers including Yves Saint Laurent, Ossie Clark, Alexander McQueen and Gianni Versace.
Lee’s work is in the permanent archives of The V&A Museum, London, The Met, New York and The Multimedia Art Museum, Moscow.

Ed is Jim's eldest surviving son. He is a former advertising executive, having trodden the boards of the same advertising agencies Jim collaborated with - Saatchi & Saatchi, Ogilvy and Lowe - albeit on the other side of the desk, as a suit.
After Jim's death in 2023, Ed re-established The Jim Lee Film Company, home to his photographic archive, film projects and bibliography.
