C-Type Color photograph.
Provenance: “This series of images, which I called Vietnam, epitomises what I’m about as a photographer. I wanted to capture the mood at the height of the Vietnam war. The Americans had gone over there thinking they were going to win it. That cockiness was very much in the air, and I wanted to reflect that. The fashion designer Ossie Clark asked me to do a series to be displayed in his shop, Quorum. There was never an actual brief: we were doing such different things creatively that we just left each other to get on with things. For my part, I always wanted a shoot to make some sort of social or political comment; the fashion angle was just a convenient way of gettingsomeone else to pay for it all.”
